What is Bone Grafting?
Bone grafting is performed to add additional bone tissue to your jaw bone, so that it is dense enough to support a dental implant. The material used in bone grafting will most often be a synthetic bone material, or less often, bone tissue from another part of the body.

For some people, a bone graft may be necessary before a dental implant can be surgically implanted into the jaw. Your oral surgeon may recommend a bone graft before your dental implant procedure if your jaw bone is too thin or soft to support the implant.
After the bone graft procedure, there will be a waiting period of a few months until you can have your dental implant surgery. During this time, the bone graft will heal and grow new, strong bone to support your dental implant.
