Haiti Dental Mission: Day 9

Sep 26th, 2016

Up at 4:15am. Left hotel at 5:00. Yaawwnnnnn. It is 25 minutes to the airport, dark, and very little traffic. This is the very first time I see Cite de Soleil.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 8

Sep 26th, 2016

Today was our last day in Timo. Even though there isn't a dental clinic, we are up with the sunrise once more. We have had an incredible week of weather.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 7

Sep 26th, 2016

The roosters were awake at 4:30 as always. Today was our last day of clinic. Started it up at 6:30. Everything is very smooth. We are having so much fun as a team and with the people of the community.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 6

Sep 26th, 2016

Another great day today. This is such a cohesive team. Same community, same dentists, same volunteers, same interpreters. It's been wonderful. All the girls watched a gorgeous sunrise today.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 5

Sep 26th, 2016

Today Alexia and I were up to see the sunrise. Akara was waiting for Alexia. He was hit in the leg with a rock about 10 years ago and it still hasn't healed.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 4

Sep 25th, 2016

This is a rewrite. My blog seems to have been whisked away. We can't seem to remember all the details.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 3

Sep 25th, 2016

It has been a great day in Timo today. Up at 6:00 ( 7.5 hours of sleep) and started the day with bananas, bread, PB&J, hot chocolate and coffee.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 2

Sep 25th, 2016

Everything went according to plan yesterday. We only had to pay the men at customs US$150.00 so they wouldn't open our 16 suitcases and backpacks. It's not like we weren't allowed to bring our items into the country, but we really didn't want to spend hours there and also repack everything.

Haiti Dental Mission: Day 1

Sep 20th, 2016

The day has finally arrived. Today we fly from Winnipeg to Minneapolis to Atlanta to Port au Prince. Very long travel day, but the first time that we can travel all in one day.

Preparing for the upcoming dental mission

Sep 19th, 2016

Phuong, Belinda (dental assistant), and I will work together with our 3 graduated Haitian dentists (Guichard, Jean-Paul, and Daniel) and set up a dental education clinic in the education centre. The main goal of this mission is to teach the dentists how to plan, implement and succeed in hosting a dental clinic. This is something that they have never done and do not have any experience doing. Having them set a goal was a challenge. One could say it’s been “like pulling teeth”!
